One of the earliest maps of the Land of Oz, the imaginary setting for the famous series of books by American author, L Frank Baum [1856-1919] which began with his "Wonderful Wizard of Oz" [1900]. Baum died in 1919 shortly after the completion of his fourteenth Oz book. This decorative & whimsical map was separately issued very shortly afterwards, in about 1920, by Chicago publishers, Reilly & Lee, as a posthumous tribute to the author & as a promotional piece for his remarkable series of Oz books. It thus predates by some 19 years the famous film adaption of Baum's first 1900 Oz book, starring Judy Garland. The design follows closely that of the map featured in the front endpapers of the 1914 edition of "Tik Tok of Oz" with the author given as "Prof. Wogglebug T.E" (Mr Highly Magnified Woggle-Bug, Thoroughly Educated), founder of the Royal College of Art & Athletic Perfection. The four regions of the country are delineated in contrasting colors - Munchkin Country (blue)...
