Designed by Lilian Lancaster in 1912 to illustrate EL Hoskyn's popular compilation of folk tales & legends, this map of Ireland depicts the country's renowned patron Saint, St. Patrick. He is here depicted banishing from Ireland's shores all reptiles and snakes, a curious legend first popularised by the 12th Century English writer, Jocelyn of Furness.
