Attractive pictorial Map of East Africa published in 1949 and designed by the recently appointed General Manager of the East Africa Travel Tourist Associaton, Dennis Owen Mathews, CMG, OBE, FRGS [1901-1984]. The map incorporates the former British colonies of Kenya, Uganda and Tanganyika (Tanzania) and highlights the region's principal tourist attractions in the immediate post-war years, particularly its unique natural heritage and unrivalled fauna & wildlife. Indeed the East Africa Travel Tourist Association had been created in 1948 with the specific aim of attracting overseas visitors and improving the internal travel & communication networks in the region. Mathews had long experience in East Africa, having previously served with the Uganda Survey Department between 1921 and 1946.
